Injury Boost for Chelsea as Real Madrid's key defenseman will not play against them in the UEFA Champions League.

Real Madrid's defenseman will not play against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League.

Chelsea is now mired in 11th position in the Premier League after a miserable start to the campaign.

The competition this season must be won if they are to have any hope of playing in the Champions League the following year. Real Madrid, the 14-time champions and current champions, are blocking their path to the semifinals. The first leg of the quarterfinal match between the two teams is scheduled for April 12 at the Santiago Bernabeu. After learning that left-back Ferland Mendy will be out of action for one month, Graham Potter and company will receive a small boost (via football.london).

Carlo Ancelotti's team has struggled without the Frenchman, and Los Blancos have struggled as a result.
