Reece James, a talented defender for Chelsea, is the Spanish club's top transfer target this summer, and Real Madrid has set their sights on a deal for him.

James, 23, has spent the most of the 2022–23 season dealing with ailments, and his most recent setback caused him to withdraw from the England squad last Sunday during the most recent international break.

There had been worry about James' injury because the England international was essential to his team's preparations and Chelsea was scheduled to play Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinal in less than two weeks.

James is reportedly Real's top pick to replace Dani Carvajal, with Carlo Ancelotti's team aware of the challenge they face in trying to entice James to the Bernabeu, according to a report from AS.

Last September, James signed a new, generous six-year contract at Stamford Bridge, making him one of the highest-paid Blues players, on par with summer signing Raheem Sterling.
